August 2026 movie/music/etc recap
Light recap this time, I was a bit busy during weekends and didn't have the time to watch my usual movie of the week as much.
Movie
Smokin' Aces (2006)
I liked it alright! It was pretty fun.
The standoff scene in the elevator was so good! I especially loved the moment where the FBI dude is surrounded by the reflections of the "security" guy as he realizes who he is, such a great scene. There were some really great shots in this movie.
Chris Pine was absolutely insane in this, I really need to watch more of him because he's a great actor. But the whole cast was really cool.
The end was a bit stupid tho, it was the only thing I didn't really enjoy, I felt it tried too hard to make a point. But it's a solid movie, and kudos to the director to manage to make an overall clear story with so many characters/subplots and a lot of action.
(Also the kid is fucking stupid lol)
Bloodbath at the House of Death (1984)
Pretty fun horror/comedy movie, Vincent Price and his monologues were great.
I don't really have a lot to say, I had a good time watching it, there were some really good jokes. And there's indeed a bloodbath at some point!
Steve (2025)
Absolutely loved this movie!
Though there's a little switch around the middle of it that changes a bit the mood and I didn't really click with it, but it wasn't much and the rest was still great, with a beautiful ending to a movie talking about a difficult but oh so important subject.
And fuck, i was talking about that the other day with colleagues on a more general way but it sucks so much how bad teachers have it nowadays, and how much it shows in every day’s life, too. The degradation of the education sector is one of the worst things to happen to humanity and I will die on that hill.
I kinda wanted to line out some particular actor/actress in this but everyone's acting was absolutely great, and you will start to care about all those kids sooner than you think.

CONTRAST - Concept101 2024: Super interesting talk about contrast in (mainly visual but not only) art and how to make stuff more appealing through that scope.
Crawford Films made a homage to the video game Until Dawn, using the thumbnails feature in a Choose your own Adventure way, and it was pretty fun to watch a bunch of endings!
