December 2024 recap

Movie

Ngl, after writing my thoughts below, I realised I need to read more positive reviews in general, I never really know how to articulate how much I like something in a way that is more than just "I loved it!"...

Wayne's World (1992)

It took me some time to get really into this movie, but once I was in, i was in.
It's a classic comedy, so I won't spend too much time saying what I loved - which was basically everything. The friendship between Wayne and Garth is adorable in its own way, the visual/audio gags are excellent, and there's not a single joke that doesn't land.
I absolutely loved Cassandra! She was such an interesting character on her own. And I found her relationship with Wayne to be quite a breath of fresh air compared to other relationships in more recent movies. Loved Alice Cooper's cameo as well!

Live and Let Die (1973)

It was an okay Bond movie, a bit too long and a bit too boring at some points. There were some good narm moments, like the big villain's death, and some funny lines but I mostly found myself looking at the clock while I was watching this movie. You would think that the first bond of the Roger Moore's era would be funnier but oh well.

Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009)

Loved it!! But I knew I would, even if I haven't watched a lot of Wes Anderson's movies, his visual style is something I really enjoy ever since I saw The Grand Budapest Hotel.
It's such a nice jewel of stop motion, the characters are superb, the world is beautiful and the story is both funny and clever. I just had a great time watching this movie.

Escape Room (2019), Escape Room: Tournament of Champions (2021)

A colleague told me I might like those movies and well, they were alright. I had a good time with most of the first movie, and since I knew what to expect for the second one, it was a fun way to waste an afternoon.
The sets for the rooms were pretty cool, and I liked the puzzles as they were; but the cast of characters went from okay to pretty annoying, especially the main male protagonist who was the whiniest dude they could have made. Most of the women were pretty awesome though.
One thing these movies highlight is the fact that the dialogue needs to be perfect when you make a movie about a game like an escape room, where communication is the key. In a medium where "Show, don't tell" is king, systematically showing a clue and having a character shout said clue at the same time gets old very, very quickly.
One other sad thing about both movies is that, despite what I said, they are serviceable enough throughout the scenario... only to shit the bed about 15-20 minutes before the end.

Music

Nothing much to say, the 1001 album randomizer I'm subbed to got me some okay albums but only two I really enjoyed:

With the new 1999 quest in Warframe, Digital Extreme released its OST on Bandcamp and it's really good. Love the instrumentals so much I sometimes just stand in-game in the streets of Höllvania just to take it all in. (I'll definitely have to talk about this quest when I post the next video game log, I'm just waiting to finish another game or two before doing so.)
The last two tracks are by the in-game band ON-LYNE and are just perfect boys band songs.
