July 2025 recap
SGDQ 2025
This was a great edition to watch!
I still have a few runs to watch (nominatively Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, Blue Prince Bingo and DOOM: The Dark Ages) but here are some really good runs that I loved (links go to youtube vods/twitch accounts):
- Plants vs. Zombies, Day-Night by SatanHerself
- Get to Work, Glitchless by Mitchriz
- Arctic Eggs, 28 Stomachs Fed by teddyras
- A Plumber for All Seasons, Any% by Thabeast721
- Titanfall 2, All Helmets Race by bryonato and sapphire_in_pink
- Super Mario Odyssey, Any% Co-op by ZackInTheBox and Jambo
- Sega Marine Fishing, Arcade - Very hard by WitherMin
- Super Mario Maker 2, Relay Race - Team Perfect Pixels vs Fast Frames
- Balatro, 7 Deck (Random Seed, Skips) by cloiss
Also I did wonder at some point if the crowd being a bit rowdier than usual wasn't a bit because they saw how unhinged their french counterpart were during Speedons ahah
Artfight 2025
(Artfight is an event during the whole month of July where you sign up, upload some original characters, choose a team and draw other people's characters! There is a whole team vs team war going on for a bit of competition, the drawings you upload are called attacks and people can make a revenge if they wish to get back at you, basically. Super fun event that I've been doing for years.)
Finished my last attack a few hours ago! Always so freeing to be done with this event at the end, especially because I'm really good at starting super slow and crunching like crazy as August arrives.
A bit disappointed because I didn't get to my self imposed goal of 20 attacks, but considering I didn't have my computer for almost a week, I'm not too sad about it.
But I really need to get back to drawing just more in general, I love doing it for that kind of things and I want so bad to get back to my own stuff, but it's a ton more difficult for some reasons...
Movie
Given that I've been busy with the aforementioned event, my little notes about the movies I've watched are going to be pretty basic because I didn't have much time editing them if I wanted to post this today, whoops
A View to a Kill (1985)
Moore looks so old in this, this is the movie where I got quite a bit grossed out when he was flirting with young women, definitely. Speaking of, the Bond girl was annoying in this one (though I did enjoy how knowledgable she was). Grace Jones was awesome, Christopher Walken was playing himself and that was perfect.
I don't have much to say about the scenario itself, it's serviceable and it was good enough for me. Always nice to see cops fuck up, as always.
Jaws (1975)
There are a ton of cult movies that I have never watched, and this was one of them! It was pretty damn good, but I did find myself wondering how it made such an impact on people. I always try to get a bit into the era of the movie I'm watching but in this case, I was a bit bewildered about that fact. I'm also a huge animal lover and sharks are awesome, so there's that too.
Anyway, I'm not going to speak much about it, I get why it's a classic. It's well done, the scenario is good, the characters are interesting. Liked how the movie ended, too.
The Ritual (2017)
Liked it alright!
There are some very beautiful landscapes/shots in that movie, and I loved the verticality the trees gave to that film, it makes the characters really imprisoned in their environnement. Really good camera work.
I legit jumped at the first shock scene, I wasn't expecting it at that moment. Hate jump scare, it was perfect, no note. The design of that creature is a++, it really feels like it was an old creature.
And if none of the guys are angels, Dom was still a fucking dickhead, kay
Series
Reacher S2, S3
Took the time to watch the rest of Reacher so far, it was pretty good. Loved the second season with the old team mates/flashbacks, the third a bit less due to one specific character, mostly. She was a bit too stupid a bit too many times to make her believable at her work.
I love Neagley so much tho, she's awesome.
Music
As usual, my faves 1001 albums for this month:
- I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight by Richard Thompson and Linda Thompson
- Ten by Pearl Jam
- Destroyer by KISS
- Hunting High And Low by a-ha
