June 2025 recap

I'm on holidays! I was waiting to take a break from work so bad.
There are 2 events in July I love, the good old SGDQ next week (July 6-13) and Artfight for the whole month! I don't draw much these days but I always try to put out as much art as I can during this event. I just get to draw people's OCs without any pressure (except for time, maybe) and I love doing that. My profile is here; maybe one day I'll finally put a little about page on here with links and whatnot.

Movie

The Platform (2019)

I sadly got bored in the middle of it. The idea and set of the movie were really interesting, but the execution didn't deliver. And as a result, it lacked a bit of substance to cement its concept/philosophy and ended up instead as a superficial skin level movie with an end that doesn't matter. I'm being harsh but I was pretty disappointed.

Octopussy (1983)

That opening, again! I love how stupid they are in the Roger Moore era, it's great. This being said, Bond seemed more puerile than usual this time, it was almost annoying? But despite that, the movie in itself is fine, minus the orientalism in India, I found it was an easy watch. The bond girl was pretty cool. Nothing much to say more for this one.

The Prestige (2006)

Been meaning to watch this one for ages (same with Memento), and I had a grand time with it! I liked how it tells really quickly that there are flash forwards/backwards and still manages to be clear in its storytelling and to still make a few surprises here and there. The twist at the end was a bit predictable for me but still really nice.
And also what a cast! Too bad the female characters are written so badly, but Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale are incredibly good in this movie and do save the lack of personality and depth of the ladies.

Asterix: The Mansions of the Gods (2014)

I wanted to try out K Pop Demon Hunters, gave up 10min in (everything is beautiful in that movie but I genuinely fucking hate the faces and expressions), decided instead to watch The Mansions of the Gods as I wanted to watch an animated movie and this Astérix was long overdue! I watched it in french, of course.
The animation is phenomenal and I love how the style is basically the comic but in 3D. As someone who knows the comics by heart, I found the start of the movie to be a bit long, but the rest of it deviates quite a lot and it's pretty in line with the comic's humor! I loved how they changed the story of Petitminus' family, they have a much more important role and it serves the movie really well.
As for the french VAs, Astier's the most recognizable when he starts shouting against his legionnaries, it was really nice to hear Roger Carel's Astérix again (he was the main voice for him and I grew up with his voice) and, ofc, it's always nice to hear Alain Chabat in whatever role he has.
It's a really nice movie! And I definitely recommend it even if you don't know much about Astérix & Obélix. (But you should totally read all the comics done by Uderzo and Goscinny)

Music

Still haven't abandoned the 1001 albums! Here are my faves of this month:
