May 2025 recap

Hi, I'm extremely tired because of colleagues not respecting my time off! Sorry in advance if my little reviews are weirdly worded, I can't bring myself to care that much this time (which totally sucks! I hate it! Even if they're mid at best, I like taking the time to write them).

(Also I really need to finish the next video game log, it's been ages since I made one and that post keeps getting longer because I am finishing games in the meantime dfkgdkjfg)

Movies

Black Bag (2025)

I finished this movie and the first thing that came to mind was "That is a damn fine movie". I really enjoyed it. It's a spy movie, featuring Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender as a couple and they're knocking it out of the park. The story is interesting, the pace is really good and I loved the multiple twists throughout the movie. I'm not going to say more because it's a fairly recent movie but I definitely recommend it!

Dead Man's Shoes (2004)

I'm following a couple of people on letterboxd (mostly youtubers whose opinion/taste I know I can trust), and one of them made a glowing review of that movie, so I thought I could take a shot at it. It's not my type of movies, but I thoroughly enjoyed watching it. It's a revenge movie, starring Paddy Considine and Toby Kebbell, whose acting was great. (It took me a while to realize Considine was one of the detectives from Hot Fuzz, ah)
Loved the filming, some establishing shots were beautiful and it gave a feeling of realness that serviced the plot really well. The drugged scene was incredibly well done.
Also, seeing 5 bad guys in a tiny 2CV is priceless.

Moonraker (1979)

That opening scene sure isn't an omen of the rest of the movie ahah
JAWS!!!!! was litterally what I said when I saw him, love that character. His redemption arc was corny as fuck but it was cute. As usual, I loved Q and his shenanigans. Goodhead was pretty good for a bond girl, the BBEG was forgettable at best, did have some good lines tho.
They really up the ante with this one, for an acceptable result I'd say. Not bad! But okay.
(this being said, ngl i love the absurdity of roger moore's movies in this franchise)

For Your Eyes Only (1981)

Didn't feel like watching anything so i went with the next Bond movie There were quite a few good action scenes in this one! Loved the ski pursuit and its showcase of winter sports (especially the bobsleigh part), the hockey fight was funny, despite the way it's introduced. The Greece section was alright, but I have to say that Topol kinda steal the show here and there, he was a pretty cool character with his antiques. Bibi was pretty fucking stupid, which is a shame because she could have been more interesting with a bit more effort put into her character. Melina on the other side was pretty cool!
The parrot was a cliché but it was used well, I still liked it a lot, especially at the end.

Series

Scavengers Reign S1

As someone who likes worldbuilding a ton, this show was a treat to watch! You follow 5 survivors who landed in emergency on an alien planet in 3 groups (of 2, 1 and a robot, and one alone) and try to survive in a world completely unknown to them. There is a significant accent on the biology of that planet and how different species interacts with each other. It's extremely well done, and the animation really does its job to show the weirdness of the fauna. It's a show that lets scenes breathe and it's all the better for it.
It sucks that it got cancelled but it is a well self contained season. I wish we could have another one just to see more of that world though!
Fuck Kamen tho, all my homies hate Kamen

The Pitt S1

Incredible show! I'm not someone who watches a ton of medical shows (M.D. House is pretty much the only one that I really followed) because when it comes to that type, I'm always asking myself how realistic it is (and I do realise I'm saying this while citing House), but the way this story is formatted made it pretty clear the writers knew what they were doing - and yeah, I went to read a bit of critics/bts stuff and they did their homework, and in general people from the medical field say it's pretty much what happens in their ER unit (some inconsistencies for the scenario notwithstanding).
Every character is well rounded, and I love how each were introduced in a natural, maybe a bit overwhelming way. The story in itself is great, and the format of 1ep = 1h is perfect. The directing is really well done; frantic when shit hits the fan but smooth when the ER gets a moment of respite. And then you have episode 12, which for me cemented this show as one of my favorite ever.
Can't wait for the next season !
