September 2025 movie/music recap
Quick one today because I'm pretty busy and I'm tired; definitely feels like winter is slowly coming ayyyy
Movie
Klaus (2019)
Loved it!!! Loved the ferryman, loved the kids, every character was interesting in its own way. JK Simmons is a++ in this movie. If the scenario is a pretty common adaptation without any big surprise, the setting is pretty interesting, the visuals are top notch and the characters are incredible. I spent a really, really good time watching this, and wondered why I didn't watch it sooner.
The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006)
It's the "mmmmmh good old testosterone movie where i don't need to think" time of the month!
The protagonist is pretty boring, and also the least believable 17 years old kid ever
Han is pretty cool! Love that kind of characters.
The nicest scene might have been the one at night with the high angle shot of the cars drifting, but there are some really well shot plans in this movie. Especially considering how hard filming cars in motion can be (vfx notwithstanding)!
But I can't really take the story seriously because it's a fucking teenager and he looks like a 25yo.
Fast & Furious (2009)
For this one, I'm just going to keep the very few notes I wrote while watching it, without any editing:
HEY THATS HAN :D
Letty!!!!
Letty :(
The rest of the movie is pretty forgettable (bimbos galore, yellow mexican filter), except for Laz Alonso because I love that dude. Yeah that's pretty much it.
Licence to Kill (1989)
That opening was great! And Bond is definitely in a poly relationship, ahah
This movie is a lot more personal and it's pretty nice to see compared to the older ones (and even though the BBEG is an international drug dealer, there is a nice dynamic between him and Bond)
As usual, it's a delight to see Q again! Bouvier's pretty fucking cool for a Bond girl, it was really nice to see someone that capable. (On the other hand, excuse my french but lmao the fucking villain's girlfriend's "i love james so much" girl you spoke to him 3 times in the whole movie, piss off)
Also seeing James Bond in jeans and baggy tshirt is a++
Overall it's a really good Bond movie despite some recurring patterns that can be a bit annoying, but the story is nice and the action scenes are great. It's a real shame we only got 2 movies with Timothy Dalton because he's a really good Bond. He's definitely my second favorite, Brosnan being the first (because Goldeneye was my first real Bond movie (and speaking of, it's the next one and I can't wait to watch it again)).
Music
From the 1001 albums:
- The Darkness' Permission to Land
- Fatboy Slim's You've Come a Long Way Baby
- Herbie Hancock's Head Hunters
Also I'd like to point out how nonsensical this list is to include Daft Punk's Homework but not Discovery!!! It's literally a list of stuff you should listen to before you die, Discovery is THE album by Daft Punk you should listen to! (And their incredible live album Alive, the mashups are awesome)
Youtube
Decided to list a few channels I really like! I'm gonna try and put out some links like this every now and then when they appear on my subscription page.
- Entomology_1: mostly about moths! There are some really nice shots of some real beauties.
- Batzilla the Bat: this one's obviously about bats! Beautiful little flying goblins.
- Art with Em: artist who makes absolutely beautiful collages! Please check some of their videos, it's magical to see the process of how they are made.
- pete beard: a great, GREAT, channel about more or less obscure illustrators from around the 20th century! I highly recommend this one, there's a ton of different styles and pete makes a point to be complete about the illustrators he talks about.
- Static Canvas: video game channel, because of course I'd have to put one in here! This one has a fairly low count of subscribers and deserves a lot more. It has both essays (still need to watch I played Boku no Natsuyasumi 2 Every Day For a Month, which I know is going to be really nice) and lists of games to discover. Highly recommend!
