Video games log 009 (Way too many incrementals)
... And again, I managed to procrastinate until I realized Steam Next Fest was right around the corner, whoops! So here's a quick reviews of the last games I finished, so I can make another proper post for the demos I tried in the next few days.
Trainatic
Incremental game where you go on a train and get resources
After Persona 5 Royal, I wanted to play a couple of quick games, so this and the next one were chosen. It's an incremental game, pretty simple but still pretty fun if you like that kind of game. The pixel art and CRT filter are nice!
Keep on Mining!
Another incremental game, where you mine for ores
I don't have much to say about this one, it does look more like something you'd find on mobile, but I still had a fun time with it. I do enjoy doing this kind of mindless "work" ahah
Quantum Conundrum
First person platform puzzle mixed with dimension shifts
That's one of the oldest games I have on my steam account! Played it back in the days but never finished it until now. There were some rooms that were a bit frustrating but overall I had a good time with it. I don't remember if it was a hit back then but it's definitely a cult game for me. Also Ike and Desmond are the best characters.
Cornerpond
Idle fishing game
Had it going on for days while I was working, it's a pretty cool and simple little idler that you do not need to check often. The randomness can be brutal if you want to complete it, but there are items to help against that.
The Case of the Golden Idol
Now this is a great detective game! Set in the 18th century
I was wondering why I hadn't played this game sooner than when I did... And then saw why I'm always hesitant to start detective games: I get obsessed with them. And this one is definitely in my top 5. The story is really nicely told, the characters are interesting, the music and art are perfect for the setting, and the gameplay is great. It's mostly text based with blanks to fill, but there's enough choices with the clues that it doesn't feel too easy.
The Rise of the Golden Idol
Obviously, sequel of the previous game, set mostly in the current age, with a few flashbacks
This is a sequel that manages to do quite a lot its predecessor did and made it better for the most parts. There was a bit of stiffness in the detective section in the first game that got much better in this one and the overall clue management was more enjoyable as well. But to be completely honest, I think I enjoyed the first one more in terms of overall scenario, because of how much more contained it was? I felt this one went a bit too far in too many directions. But it's still a really great game, and there's a great cameo in the dlc that I really enjoyed (iykyk).
Monument Valley
Isometric 3D puzzle game
I actually played this game and its sequel on mobile about 7 or 8 years ago, but it was really nice to revisit this little gem of an indie! It's a short and poetic game, and everyone should play it just to experience the visuals and animation of it.
Lyca
Incremental game yet again! You play as a dog planting flowers on a desolate land.
Yeah I don't have much to say about it, it's a pretty fun game if you're into incrementals. I liked the visuals and the grind wasn't too hard. I just love playing that kind of games when I'm too tired after a long day at work.
Piñata Go Boom
And another incremental game! You are an employee and have to destroy as much piñatas as you can in a minute
I loved LOVED the pixel art in this! The gameplay felt maybe a bit too grindy at times but its humor and visuals made up for it. Definitely recommend if you like that kind of games!
