Video games log 012 (Bunch of short(-ish) games)
Hello hi, here I am again for a little video game log (~ ̄▽ ̄)~
I played...
Unfair flips
Casual clicker game about flipping a coin to get to 10 heads
You just have one button to flip a coin. Still pretty fun in the sense that even if this game is based only on luck (with a few barebone upgrades) and you know it, you will still hope for a little nudge here and there.
(Shoutout to the eggbug ending! I miss cohost, it was a chill social site.)
BALL x PIT
Roguelike meets Arkanoid
I played its demo during a Steam Next Fest and I liked it a lot, and the full game is indeed pretty damn fun! Really enjoyed the different characters and their sometimes unique ball mechanics, and the levels are different enough to avoid getting bored. The fact that you can have two characters and mix their mechanics was a great idea to implement, too!
The game in itself might be a bit hard for some at the beginning, but I felt there's definitely a point where you start to realize which combos are great together and it gets much simpler then, without even mentioning upgrades and unlocks.
DOGWALK
Really short exploration game where you control a dog
The art for this is absolutely lovely! This was more of a little demo made with open source tools (blender, godot) but still really adorable and a great little moment to wander in the snow and pull your young master around with your leash. It's free, so there's no reason not to play it!
Shelldiver
Incremental game! You're a tortoise capturing jellyfishes
Pretty fun and cute! It's pretty short as well. I don't have much to say, it's a nice incremental game but not the most memorable of its kind for me. Still cool tho!
UMAMI
3d jigsaw game! Assemble gorgeous cakes.
Really, really pretty game! Had a good time making those cakes.
Wuppo: Definitive Edition
Metroidvania/exploration platformer
Pretty fun adventure! The story is a bit basic but does its job, and the world building elevates it to a point I got really curious about the whole history of these tribes. The art is fun and there's some solid humor here and there.
Öoo
Cute platform game centered around a little bug and its bomb(s)!
Okay.
Listen.
This is a masterpiece of level design and gameplay in its own simplicity. Get that game. It's a short game (1h30-3h00), too, so you don't have any excuses.
Grindstone
Monster-matching/murdering, with quite a few surprise mechanics!
This was a cool game to play! There's a bit of a mobile feel to it (mostly due to its interface), but the art and how much the tile matching is pushed to make you do tasks in some levels make it a really good strategy game, with a side of grind/crafting weapons/potions to help you here and there. The story and lore is pretty nice, too!
And for the last two, that I gave up on:
Wargroove
Fantasy tactical RPG
I sadly didn't finish this one, not because it's bad, but because I'm really, really picky with that genre of games, and there's a .2mm line between what I like about these games and how much I find the gameplay way too repetitive. The art is cute and the characters are pretty cool tho! Loved the 2 stages where I played as Caesar the dog, too.
The Bureau: XCOM Declassified
Tactical shooter with space aliens
I wanted to try it because it was in my backlog since forever, but after about 2h, the story still hadn't managed to keep me interested, so I dropped it. I realize it's basically the length of the prologue but I didn't feel like playing more than that. At least I tried it!
