Video games log 013 (Steam Next Fest)
Oh boy here we go
Played 50 or so demos this time, here are the ones where I had something to say, even if I don't say much! As usual, the list is alphabetical and there's a little heart 💕 emoji for my faves.
Cat Isle
Cozy management game where you build restaurants and other buildings on an island visited by cats. Really chill and the pixel art is lovely. Cute!
Clover's Quadrants
Sokoban; what you eat determines how you move! I haven't played a lot of it but it's a pretty interesting puzzle game, and the art is nice!
DEG
Kind of a minesweeper at first but not only? You discover other kinds of puzzles as you go along. Can't say much about it as I haven't played a lot, this is clearly a game I want to play once it'll fully come out!
Denshattack!
It's a skate game but with trains, and it's extremely cool. The art and music are really good and the controls are pretty fine - I had a bit of trouble with some tricks, but it might be a problem with my controller.
Dreamera: Figment of Dreams
Colorful point and click puzzle adventure! This demo was short but lovely.
Duppy Detective Tashia
Detective visual novel-ish game; you died and have to help find the culprit of a murder that happened in the afterlife. It's based on Caribbean folklore, which is really nice, and the art is pretty damn good!
Esoteric Ebb 💕
Disco Elysium but in a fantasy setting where you play a cleric investigating an explosion. I know I'm going to like this game a lot!
Gambonanza
Turn based chess roguelike! It's basically Balatro but with chess, cool game!
Incremental Infinity
Minimalist incremental (duh) game! I'm a fan of that kind of games so I like it alright, it's pretty chill. The fact that your ennemies are numbers certainly satisfies my monkey brain. If there is one thing I don't like that much, it's the competence tree half-hiding the screen, I kinda wish it could just push the main screen to the side, and not just appear on the right above it. It's translucent but you miss the action beneath it quite a lot, I find.
inKONBINI: One Store. Many Stories 💕
Kombini simulator! With a really cute aesthetics, and the demo-prologue looks like there will be quite a few nice stories.
Lootbound
Tactical roguelike with loot management; definitely makes you think of Slay The Spire with its UI. I think there is a little something missing about that game, but I wouldn't be able to say what. Not bad, but I found myself a bit bored playing the demo.
LumenTale: Memories of Trey
This one looks like a great Pokemon-like game! The few creatures I got to see were pretty cool, and the story seems interesting. The demo was basically the start of the game, which was way too wordy for a demo though, so I hope it does live up to the 20min I got to play!
Map Map - A Game About Maps
If you're a fan of Geoguessr, this is a game for you! Kind of. You visit islands and have to pinpoint landmarks on your map. The characters only say map. Fun and cute!
Outpacked
Puzzle game! Pack items into luggage but be careful to follow every constraints. Cute and chill game!
Pakinpaks
Basically the same as Outpacked, with a super stylish look to it! Really cool, too!
Panthalassa 💕
Point and click game set in an alien underwater world! Discover it by solving weird puzzles in a 90/00s style that is just chef's kiss
Phonopolis 💕
New game from Amanita Design (Samorost, Machinarium)! Help Felix dismantle the oppression of the city he lives in. It's a good old point and click, with fantastic art made of cardboard!
Rhell: Warped Worlds & Troubled Times
Adventure game, play as a little mage, explore and solve puzzles with spells that you can mix! There is a ton of variety with that mechanic and it's great.
SCOPECREEP
Incremental, collect souls and get new upgrades with their drops! The art and music are pretty cool!
Scritchy Scratchy
Guess what, it's another incremental game again! With scratch-off tickets. Extremely repetitive but still fun!
Sokogram 💕
Mix of Picross and Sokoban, with simple but lovely pixel art. Prepare the land following a picross grid to then move your character or boxes to the goals! Pretty cool concept!
Tap Tap Loot
Incremental clicker idler game! Play a little cat who moves as you click (either in game or naturally while doing whatever you do on your computer). The game is chill and the pixel art is cute.
Titanium Court 💕
A strategy/match-3 game with quite the absurd dialogs! Absolutely loved playing the demo! This is one demo you definitely have to try out to see if it works for you, I don't feel I can describe how cool this game is even if I could speak english fluently.
Trading Card Inspector 💕
Exactly what it says on the tin, you have to validate cards (or not), and value them. Pretty fun! Also, I love the art, the animation and dithering are absolutely lovely. And the ambiance is a++
Tukoni: Forest Keepers
Lovely point and click! The art is absolutely gorgeous, especially the sketches your character draws in its book.
Vampire Crawlers: The Turbo Wildcard from Vampire Survivors 💕
New game from poncle, the Vampire Survivors developer! This time with a deckbuilding dungeon crawler. It keeps the whole aesthetics of Survivors but the new twist is frankly fun. I already see myself wasting hours to this game when it'll come out.
Walk The Frog 💕
Drag and drop sticky notes to help Froggo get to his pond! Lovely gameplay with really cute art!
Wax Heads
Help customers find the vinyl record they want and listen to their story! Nice game with nice music.
Whiskers, Wizards and Wands
Isometric adventure game! Play as a wizard cat and solve puzzles with your wand. Pretty cool, and the mix between 3D world and paper characters/objects is nice.
Wunder: The Double-Sided Deckbuilder
Roguelike with flipping coins mechanics! Each fight consists of 5 turns where you flip 7 coins; the strategy lies in your special coins and talismans. You progress on a map similar to Slay The Spire's. Pretty fun!
